GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS: ARE GMO CROPS SAFE FOR LIVESTOCK?
Dr. Jim Clark is professor of ruminant nutrition
at the University of Illinois. Dr. Clark reviewed 23 research experiments
to determine if genetically-modified corn and soybeans have detrimental
effects on animals. Groups of dairy cows, beef cows, sheep, and poultry
were fed either GMO corn and soybeans, or traditional corn and soybeans
as a portion of their diet. All 23 studies showed no difference in milk
production, milk composition, weight gain or overall health. There was
no difference in the animals ability to digest GMO crops verses traditional
crops. The conclusion was that GMO crops are safe for livestock. News Letter from Dr. Whitmore, August No.6 2001 |
